Hi all,
Alan Slough, an old friend, sadly passed away early this morning after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was a lovely man who put a lot of time into passing on his experiences and skills as a coach to hundreds of local schoolchildren in Torbay on his retirement from football, as well as running a very successful Torquay Christians in Sport football team in the local South Devon league.
Older TUFC supporters will remember him for coming to TUFC as coach with Bruce Rioch, they actually played in the same team at school and for the Luton area schoolboys team.
More famously, he is a legend at Luton Town and Fulham FC. He played regularly for Luton Town in the early seventies and was also captain during their swift rise from the old division 4 (EFL2) through to division 1 (Premiership today).
Then, again I believe he was captain, he went on to play for Fulham, who famously reached the reached the FA Cup final v West Ham Utd in 1975. I am told that Gary Johnson was actually there in the crowd!
Alan's team included Bobby Moore(ex West Ham Utd), George Best, Alan Mullery and I believe Rodney Marsh to name but a few. I remember watching this final and he was one of the best players.... I didn't know him then!!
Thoughts go to Anne and his family and to our own current TUFC player, his grandson, Louie Slough at this time.
RIP Alan.
Michel
